Lecture – “How de Cocrico Come to Town” Law, environment and society in Tobago since 1962

This was the third in a series of lectures hosted through the collaborative effort of the Tobago Writers Guild and Tobago Library Services. Facilitator for the event was well known Tobagonian author, lecturer and historian Dr Rita Pemberton who used metaphor to compare the effects of events such as hurricane Flora in 1963 on the cocrico and Tobagonians. She noted that for the cocrico there was a movement from the rural areas to the urban areas however for the Tobagonians there was a change in lifestyle as Tobagonians began to rely on imported goods such as food after the destruction of local agriculture. The event was held 20th March 2019.

A videorecording of the lecture is available on YouTube.
