Children's Services



Children’s Services are for persons from birth to twelve (12) years old.
Services include lending services, computers, storytelling, games and a host of other activities designed to help children learn to read, develop social skills and develop healthy expression.
BECOME A MEMBER
A child’s parent or guardian must follow these steps:
- Download and print the Children’s registration form or collect a form from any of our libraries.
- Take the completed form to any Tobago public library with the following:
- The child’s computer generated birth certificate/passport
- Valid parent’s/guardian identification (passport, national ID or driver’s permit)
- Parent’s/guardian’s proof of mailing address (a utility bill or bank statement)
TYPES OF MATERIAL
For tiny tots you will find:
- Board books
- Picture books
- Chapter books
- Games
For the older child you will find:
- Books – fiction and nonfiction
- Magazines
- DVDs
Fiction:
Titles include detective and adventure stories, family stories, drama, horror and suspense, and more!
Non-Fiction:
Non-Fiction material include topics such as art, music, history, literature, Caribbean stories, comics, children’s issues and much more.
LENDING SERVICES
- A child can borrow up to 6 items
- Items can include books (fiction and non-fiction), magazines, DVDs, audiobooks
- Items have different due dates
- Books – 28 days
- Magazines – 7 days
- DVDs and Audiobooks – 4 days
- Children can renew items online using ID# on their library card and PIN
- Children can use the self-check service to check out items on their own
TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
- Computers are available for use up to at least 2 hours. Children can access a unit to complete homework assignments or browse the internet for leisure
- Staff are available to offer assistance when needed
PROGRAMMES & ACTIVITIES
STORYTELLING
- Storytime is held weekly
- Fun stories are told by staff or specially invited guest storytellers
- Excitement fills our Storytelling Rooms every week as fun and interesting stories are told
CRAFT
- The children are given the opportunity to be creative
- They are guided in the completion of simple decorative items or DIY projects
- The pride and joy displayed by the children is priceless
GAMES
- The children indulge in a host of fun games such as board games (monopoly, chess, uno, domino and life-sized including, ludo, snakes and ladders).
AUTHOR VISITS
- Authors of children’s storybooks are invited to a special event to talk about their book, read from their book, meet the children and sign autographs.
JULY/AUGUST VACATION PROGRAMME
- Each year during the July/August school break, children converge to the library to participate in a series of activities which are fun and educational.
