Charlotteville Branch Library
Emel Nicholson
Emel Nicholson Lending Library
The Lending Library of the Charlotteville Branch Library is named in honour of Ms Emel Nicholson. "Ms Emel" was a prominent businesswoman in the Charlotteville community. An enterprising entrepreneur with a benevolent spirit, Ms Emel willingly assisted anyone in the community that was in need, sharing whatever she had. So it was not surprising that when the Government sought a property to house the Charlotteville Branch Library, Ms Emel gave up the building she had intended for her residence, leasing it instead for use as the community library. The Charlotteville Branch Library opened in 1956 and this temporary accommodation was used until 1995, when a new purpose-built library was completed.
Arthur Moore
Arthur Moore Auditorium
Arthur Moore joined the Central Library of Trinidad and Tobago as a part-time custodian at the Charlotteville Branch Library in 1957. He was appointed Branch Library Assistant in 1976 and was the Branch Library's sole employee. In 1995, the library moved to new purpose-built premises and the library's auditorium was named after him in recognition of his selfless service in providing uninterrupted library services to the Charlotteville community for over 38 years. Mr Moore retired from the library services in 1996, and died in 1999.
